Sandy is excited to be teaching Life Skills at BFA, which is a fun blend of her education experience. Sandy attended Ohio University (Bobcats not Buckeyes) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Integrated Language Arts. After graduating, she returned to her hometown in Pittsburgh, PA (Go Steelers!) and taught 9th grade English for four years. In 2007, she and her husband moved to Colorado and Sandy attended Denver Seminary where she earned a Master’s Degree in School and Community Counseling. She worked as a high school counselor at Montbello High School in Denver Public Schools for two years.

Sandy is thankful she got to be home with her three kiddos during their early years. The Hayes kids started attending BFA in 2021 and shortly after Sandy started substitute teaching as well. The Life Skills position blends her love of teaching and her desire to help students succeed in both the classroom and beyond. She is passionate about preparing students to be responsible and capable future adults.

Sandy and her husband Michael have been married for 21 years. This is the last year all three of their kiddos will be at BFA – Levi is in 8th, Anna is in 6th and Selah is in 2nd. Together, the Hayes Family enjoys camping and hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. In her free time, Sandy loves cuddling up with a blanket, a cup of tea and a good book!
