Looking for a unique, creative after school activity? Then Destination Imagination (DI) is for you!
DI is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic DI Challenges in the fields of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), fine arts and service learning.
DI teaches skills students can use in all areas of their lives, such as creative problem solving, teamwork, time management, as well as patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. DI teams create solutions to challenges, then present those solutions at one or more tournaments.
Through DI, students use the creative process to turn their ideas into reality and learn invaluable skills through the process including:
- Creative and critical thinking
- Team building
- Problem solving
- Risk taking
- Project management
- Perseverance
- Self-confidence
Since its inception at BFA in 2012, 51 teams have competed at the regional level and 21 teams have competed at the state level; from 2016-19, BFA has had a total of nine teams qualify and represent the school at DI’s international level of competition – Global Finals. This year, there is one seventh-grade DI team competing and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming competitions. See the Principal Newsletter for all the details!
